Although it is not essential to wear a PDF while on a keel boat under normal weather conditions, it is mandatory for non swimmers to wear a PDF when riding in smaller vessels such as inflatable dinghies. PDFs are mandatory for everyone when traveling in rough weather and there are also harnesses and tethers available to keep the crew safe.
